In our article dt. 16.6.08 we had stated that GOI needs to add approx. 1,17,802 MW instead of 78577 MW planned during 11th five year plan period of 2007-12. It is heartening to read recent announcement of GOI that this figure has now being revised to 90,000 MW. News paper report is reproduced below.
NEW DELHI: 11.9.08.
The government today revised its target of power capacity addition to 90,000 MW in the 11th five-year plan (2007-12), from earlier estimate of 78,577 MW. "By the year 2012, we will add 90,000 MW of power," Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told reporters here.
However, this figure is still very far from our estimates of approx. 1,17,802 MW.
